USA All The Way

It wasn't the "Miracle On Ice", but it was one hellava performance by Team USA in beating Team Canada, and Marty Brodeur, 5-3 and thereby advancing to the quarterfinals. Now the Gold Medal is only three games away and team Canada must work its way through the qualifing round.

It was a sweet victory for Ranger fans also. Chris Drury, playing his best hockey of the season, scored his second goal of this tournament, giving the USA a 3-2 lead which it never relinquished. What made it sweeter was that it came aginst the "beloved" Marty Brodeur of the Devils, who played like he was bored with the whole procedings. Marty was toasted by old friends like Brian Rafalski , two goals, and Jamie Langenbrunner, a goal and an assist.

It would have been worse had the Americans been able to put more rubber on Brodeur who made all of 18 saves. How long will Team Canada stay with Marty remains to be seem. They won't go far with his indifferent play. For Team USA they are now on a collision course to meet the Swedish Team and Henrik Lundqvist. Now won't that be a dandy.

Go Lundqvist! Go Team USA!

The US-Canada game was one of the best games I've seen this year. Except for Marty I think everyone put it all out there. I think it shows that if you put Drury on a line with good players he'll get his opportunistic goals. Leaving him on a 3rd or 4th line with the Rangers probably means more of the same. He's always been a good foil, but not "the man."

After just coming back from a week in Canada (scouting the minor leagues, of course!) and having to hear about Canadian hockey superiority, this couldn't have been a better loss for the home team! Maaaar-T!

It was an entertaining game. I believe that Luongo is the starter for the game against Germany.

Speaking as a Canadian, and one who does not take any opponent lightly, I have to congratulate USA on a disciplined and hard-fought win. And Drury and Callahan both were very very good, and that is somewhat of a consolation to me.

Great tourney so far. Let the games continue!
