Know Your NY Ranger Greats
Who is this New York Ranger Great?
First one to post the correct answer in comments gets the glory of becoming a deputy "Ranger Pundit." But sorry we ain't got no stinkin' badges. And no hints, no Google.
It's disgraceful that no one has IDed the late great Lester Patrick yet, former Blueshirt GM, coach and goaltender (as needed). The man had THREE cups. As a Ranger, no less.
rangers.nhl.com: Pike had the distinction of being a 22-year-old rookie on the Rangers team that won the 1940 Stanley Cup championship, but his career with the Rangers was interrupted by World War II. During the war, he left the NHLfor two years to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force, based out of his hometown of Winnipeg. He returned to the Blueshirts in 1945 to play a total of 64 games over the next two seasons.
Looks a little like a young Tony Leswick.

ReplyDeleteNo. The Ranger player pictured is not Tony Leswick or Lester Patrick. Here is another photo of our mystery Ranger: http://twitpic.com/been9
ReplyDeleteAlf Pike ... RIP
ReplyDeleteNice work Scotty Hockey. You are correct.
ReplyDeleteIt is "The Embalmer" himself, Alfred George "Alf" Pike.
The pictures came from this Hall of Fame article. (scroll down about half way)

Hey, that's not fair. Scotty, you're already a blogger, you don't need to be a "pundit", too, do you? :(
ReplyDeleteI was excited b/c I knew who it was right away. Damnit.
